Tolkien Tag 2018

Hello everyone! This tag is from Hamlette's blog over at The Edge of the Precipice. She hosts the Tolkien Blog Party every year! Feel free to visit her blog and answer the questions or pick up a button!

Also, she has an AMAZING giveaway this year! She's got nine different prizes and they are so lovely! I won a pack of stickers last year. I hope I can win something again! You can find the giveaway at the same blog! Let's get the party started!

1.  What's your favorite Middle-earth story/book?

Definitely The Hobbit. That will always be my favorite Middle-earth story!

2.  Do you have a favorite subplot?

My favorite subplot is about Merry and Pippin meeting Treebeard. Ents are such mysterious creatures, don't you think? They know so much about the world and their history. But it's too bad they talk so slowly. It would probably take forever to write all that down!

3.  What's your favorite theme in Tolkien's books?  (Can be in one specific story, or overall.)

I actually wrote an essay about the theme of mercy in LOTR. It's very prominent in The Return of the King.

4.  Do you have a favorite weapon from Middle-earth?

Sting is a classic. But I think my favorite weapon is the bow that Galadriel gave to Legolas. I don't think it has a name... does it? Does anyone know if it has a name?

5.  Would you like to be a hobbit?

I am a hobbit! :D

6.  Do you have a favorite romance/couple?

Definitely Beren and Luthien. There's just something so magical about their story <3

7.  What's your favorite Middle-earth creature?  (Can be "real" or "imaginary.")

Oh! There was an imaginary creature that hobbits came up with but I don't remember it's name! Hold my Ent-draught really quickly... *runs off* Ugh, I can't find it anywhere!

Well the great eagles are one of my favorites too. They're so majestic and their feathers are so beautiful in the moonlight!

8.  What character do you look the most like?

What character do I look like? Hmm, well I don't really know... I have dark hair like Arwen but it's curly. Although I'm not as light-skinned as her.

9.  Are there any books about Middle-earth or Professor Tolkien (but not written by him) you recommend?

I would recommend A Tolkien Dictionary by David Day. It's very helpful to have with you while you're reading another Tolkien book!

10.  List up to ten of your favorite lines/quotations from the Middle-earth books and/or movies.

Oh gosh this is difficult. But I'll try my hardest! These quotes are not in any particular order. They just came into my mind this way. (And I don't even know if this is the way they are but this is how I remember them... I would look it up but I haven't got time! I'm going to be TERRIBLY late for a party!)

  1. "In a hole in the ground, there lived a hobbit." (classic!)
  2. "All that is gold does not glitter. Not all those who wander are lost." (there isn't room all of it...)
  3. "All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us." (wise words, Gandalf)
  4. "I don't know half of you half as well as I should like. And I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve." (wise words, haha!)
  5. "There's some good in this world, Mister Frodo, and it's worth fighting for."(SAAAAM <3)
  6. "I have found that it is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay."
  7. "The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back and all turns to silver glass. And then you see it. White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise."
  8. "Even the smallest person can change the course of history."(is this a book quote?)
  9. "It is useless to meet revenge with revenge. It solves nothing." (I love this whole chapter!)
  10. "If more of us valued home over gold, it would be a merrier world." (*sobs* Thorin...)
Whew, that was quick! But no time to rest. I have to bounce out of here. I've got a busy day ahead of me!

Frodo is working on a post for later. It was my birthday gift to him :) I hope he doesn't bore you all but it was the only way he wouldn't be mad at me for leaving! Anyway, have a great day everyone! See ya!

  1. Such fun answers! And yeah, I think David Day's books can be really helpful. I liked the Atlas particularly well, as places often trip me up.

  2. Fun answers! I don't think Legolas' bow had a name, though it was called a "bow of the Galadhrim."

We have a lot of the same favorite quotes :)

    2. You are? That's great! Is this your first time reading it?

Only three?! Haha, I don't know how I would survive if I only watched it three times. You should totally rewatch them again after you've finished the book!

P.S. And don't worry about the misspelling. I knew what you meant ;)
      Thanks for reading!
